Contract Negotiations Between UPS and the Teamsters Collapse

UPS Teamsters May Strike

Early this morning, contract talks between United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) and the UPS Teamsters National Negotiating Committee collapsed. This stoppage comes after UPS and the Teamsters reached an agreement on several workplace safety issues.

Both sides issued press releases.

The Teamsters say that UPS left the bargaining table after presenting an unacceptable deal and refused to give the Teamsters a last, best, and final offer.

UPS, however, disagrees about what happened. And it says the “Teamsters have stopped negotiating despite historic proposals that build on our industry-leading pay. We have nearly a month left to negotiate. We have not walked away, and the union has a responsibility to remain at the table.”

UPS shares have dropped, presumably over concerns that more than 300,000 employees will strike if the company fails to reach a deal with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Although the current labor contract is in place until later this month, the failed talks increase the likelihood of a Teamsters strike because the union’s members would need to review and vote to ratify the agreement. These acts take time.

If the UPS Teamsters strike, it may be the largest single-employer strike in American history.

Our workers comp law firm will continue to provide updates as we represent many Teamsters and UPS employees in workers compensation and Social Security Disability cases.
